What Is KöR Teeth Whitening?

The KöR Teeth-Whitening system combines traditional peroxide bleaching treatments with the latest technologies and applications. The specialized KöR whitening gel provides the same effects as up to 10 hours of bleaching within just 25 to 30-minute sessions and doesn’t require the use of an LED light.

Another unique feature of the KöR whitening treatment is that the material is stored in a fridge before use. Teeth whitening solutions are naturally unstable, which means that they begin to degrade almost immediately after manufacturing, meaning that they start to lose potency as soon as they’re created. By keeping the KöR solution refrigerated, the solution remains as effective and potent as it was the day it was manufactured. This process ensures a more effective and predictable tooth whitening treatment.

At Signature Smiles Studio, we offer several types of whitening treatments with KöR to help you love your smile for whatever it is that you’re looking forward to.

What Causes Tooth Discoloration and Stains?

Tooth discoloration is a normal part of aging. As we age, the enamel on our teeth wears down and starts to expose the yellow dentin beneath. However, some things can cause staining and discoloration that are unrelated to the natural wearing down of the enamel. Some of the most common causes of tooth discoloration are:

  • Pigmented foods and beverages like dark berries, coffee, and red wine
  • Smoking and tobacco products
  • Medications such as chemotherapy medications and certain antibiotics can cause discoloration
  • Trauma or injury to the tooth
  • Tooth decay or poor hygiene
  • Too much fluoride causes dental fluorosis, or white spots on the teeth, that can be treated with teeth whitening
  • Genetics

Are You A Candidate for KöR Whitening Treatments?

While the KöR whitening system is a highly safe and effective form of teeth whitening, there are some things to consider before booking your appointmentFirst, the process can be a bit time-consuming. The entire treatment often requires three visits for the initial examination, the treatment itself, and any follow-up appointments.

Second, some patients must wear a night gel tray for up to two weeks after their initial whitening treatment to help maximize the results, meaning you will have to stay diligent about the treatment even at home.

Lastly, KöR whitening treatments are not appropriate for everyone. It is not recommended for children under thirteen or patients with severe dental issues, such as extreme decay or gum disease. During your consultation, Dr. Spaulding will thoroughly examine your oral health to determine if the KöR whitening treatment will be a safe and effective option for you. If issues are getting in the way of whitening your teeth, she’ll offer her professional advice and formulate a treatment plan to help you achieve a bright, healthy smile.

What Are the Different Types of KöR Whitening Treatments?

KöR Home

The KöR Home whitening treatment can be used outside your dentist’s office and is available as a daytime and nighttime treatment. This system is not as potent as the in-office treatments and is best used as an at-home maintenance treatment or for highly sensitive teeth. It uses 16% strength hydremide peroxide at night and 9% strength during the day.

Kör Max

Kör Max is a hybrid treatment that is best for patients with mild tooth yellowing or staining. It consists of one in-office treatment and an at-home nighttime whitening system.

Kör Ultra

KöR Ultra delivers extreme results and is the best option for stubborn discoloration. This treatment includes one in-office treatment, 3-4 weeks of at-home nighttime treatments, and a final in-office treatment. You may need to continue periodic at-home treatments to maintain your results.

Kör Ultra-t

KöR Ultra-T is designed to offer extraordinary results for heavy or once-believed-untreatable issues, such as tetracycline discoloration. This whitening treatment involves an in-office treatment, 6-8 weeks of at-home treatments, and a final in-office treatment with periodic at-home maintenance treatments.

How Does the KöR Whitening System Work?

The KöR whitening treatment uses a peroxide formula that forms hydrogen peroxide. As the hydrogen peroxide is broken down, it forms oxygen, water, and radicals and other byproducts that lighten the teeth. However, what truly makes the KöR’s system so effective is the specialized trays, KöR-Seal™ trays, that prevent saliva from mixing with the whitening agent, as saliva denatures the chemicals and renders them less effective.

Saliva contains peroxidase, an anti-oxidant enzyme that can neutralize peroxide and make it less potent. This denaturing is part of why other whitening systems, particularly over-the-counter systems, are unpredictable or ineffective. KöR’s specialized design and formulation prevent saliva from interacting with the whitening gel, ensuring teeth whitening success.

KöR’s in-office treatments use a unique dual-active, trim-barrel system that keeps the active ingredients separated until they are ready for use. This helps maintain the chemical potency and allows Dr. Spaulding to formulate the ingredient mixture appropriate for each patient.

Teeth Whitening FAQs

When you choose professional teeth whitening, your treatment is performed under dental supervision and scrutiny, meaning there are typically no side effects. You may experience gum tenderness and tooth sensitivity immediately after your treatment, but these should subside quickly.

While you can whiten your teeth at home, and we do offer at-home whitening kits here, the key to safe, successful teeth whitening is that it’s performed under the supervision of your dentist. Whitening too often or aggressively because you’re in a hurry can damage your teeth, causing sensitivity and damage to your gum tissue.

You can whiten your teeth at home; however, to ensure you keep your teeth safe and actually achieve the results you want, you need professional teeth whitening.

Kör teeth whitening system’s whitening gel is the first to be continuously refrigerated, meaning that the inherently unstable whitening gel remains stable until it is actually applied to your teeth. The constant refrigeration essentially stops the degradation of the whitening agent, meaning the Kör whitening gel is as powerful when it touches your teeth as it was when it was manufactured. Additionally, Kör offers a desensitizer, which plugs the hollow microchannels within the teeth that go from the pulp to the enamel. By plugging these microchannels, the sensitivity associated with teeth whitening, the inflammation in the pulp of the tooth, is prevented.

Yes, you can get Kör teeth whitening if you have sensitive teeth. Kör teeth whitening is designed to be customized to your needs, including the application of a desensitizer that closes the dental tubules on the teeth to prevent inflammation of the pulp, making it a great option for people with sensitive teeth who cannot receive other whitening treatments.

When performed in the office, Kör teeth whitening can provide substantial whitening results within a single hour, meaning you will leave our Decatur, GA dental office with renewed, beautifully white teeth.

Kör teeth whitening results are permanent when used in conjunction with Kör’s at-home maintenance treatments.

Dr. Spaulding may recommend maintenance treatments to ensure the longevity of your results. However, there is no substitute for good oral hygiene. Daily brushing and flossing are a great way to remove plaque that can eat away at the enamel and turn into tartar, yellowing your teeth. There are also lifestyle changes you can make to maintain your whitening results, including quitting smoking and avoiding heavily pigmented foods and beverages like berries, coffee, tea, and red wine.

Regular dental checkups and professional teeth cleanings are essential to maintaining your oral health and the white smile you have worked hard to achieve.
